What Guides Our Operations during the Covid-19 Pandemic?
The Baraboo Public Library is observing Sauk County recommendations regarding our Covid-19 response. We will continue to lift restrictions as local health authorities advise. The library may be closed on short notice by the Library Director if there is a resurgence of the virus in our community or if other issues related safety/health concerns arise, based on City, County, State, or Federal agency reports or recommendations.
When Will We Be Open?
Currently, we will be open to the public during our regular business hours: Monday through Thursday, 9 AM to 8 PM; Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM; Saturday, 9 AM to 2 PM.
Special Conditions for this Reopening Period
Patrons and staff in the library should maintain 6 feet of social distancing at all times. Wearing a mask and practicing good hand hygiene are recommended. To enable the observance of 6 feet of social distancing, much of the furniture has been removed from the Adult Department. Most of the public computers in the Adult Department have been removed from service. In Youth Services, all toys, kitchen play sets and the puppet show theater have been removed from the play area. All board games have been removed from the youth and teen areas. Teens will not be able to play Minecraft in the teen area. There will be limited seating in the Youth Services department.
Staff will disinfect many surfaces as frequently as possible, but patrons should consider any surface in the library to be potentially contaminated.
Return all materials to the drive up book return at the back of the building. Returned items will be kept in quarantine for 72 hours before they will be handled and checked in. Items will be backdated when checked in to the date they were returned. All materials checked out since curbside pickup began on April 27 have our usual due dates. Patrons should call the library (356-6166) if they need information about the due date of any library item they have checked out.
Services Available During the Reopening Period
Browsing, Reading, and Research
During their time inside the library, patrons are welcome to browse items in our collection, and read newspapers and magazines. They may access resources in our local history, reference and microfilm collections.
The library will continue curbside pickup of library materials during regular business hours. Patrons may call the library at 356-6166 to request pickup of items owned by the Baraboo Public Library with “available” status, as well as items that they have been notified are waiting on the hold shelf for them.
To request Baraboo-owned materials by phone, patrons should call the library at 608-356-6166 and have their library card number ready. To request Baraboo-owned materials online, patrons should log onto LINKcat at linkcat.info to place holds on “available” Baraboo Library materials, using the Advanced Search function to narrow their search to items owned by Baraboo Library. Library staff will search for, retrieve, and check out requested items to the patron’s library account.
The delivery system for materials owned by other libraries is gradually resuming service, but operating at reduced capacity. Patrons should expect extended wait times for items they have on hold that belong to other libraries.
WiFi, Faxing, Making Copies, and Mobile Printing from a patron's own device are available.
Limited Public Computer Use
With just a few computers available for public use, computer time will be limited to 1 hour per day. There will be no extensions of computer time.
Upgrade Temporary Library Cards
Patrons who registered online for a temporary library card for use during the library closure, should upgrade their library accounts to regular accounts. Temporary cards are set to expire 90 days after they were issued. To upgrade a temporary card, patrons should visit the library in person, bringing in a valid photo ID and proof of address (if not listed on the photo ID).
We are happy to be able to welcome the public back to the library, and appreciate your patience during these transitional periods. Please call the library at 608-356-6166 if you have questions about library services.
