1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

1. Who can sign up? Any preschool-age children (0-5 yrs. old) with their family/caregivers.

2. Can I really expect to read 1000 books to my child before Kindergarten? Yes if you read 3 books a day for a year = 1,095 books.

3. Do I have to read books from the Baraboo Public Library? No, you can read books from anywhere.

4. Can I read the same story every night to my child. Can I count that book more than once? Yes, repetition is great for your child to learn sequencing and story order.

Information about the program itself:

Each child will receive a tote bag with a train ticket when he/she registers. The train ticket will have 10 train cars on it. When the child has read 100 books the parent and child will come into the Youth Services Department and the child will receive a sticker and a stamp (the stamp will have the 1000 BKs logo on it). The parent will also be able to write down the child’s 10 most favorite books on the back of each train ticket. The parent will be able to keep the completed train ticket.

Once the child completes 10 train tickets, they will have read 1000 books and have completed the program. For completing the program they get a gift certificate to a local bookstore, and they get to ride in the Big Top parade. The parade takes place every July on the 4th Saturday of the month at 2 pm.

We will have a “Wall of Fame.” The wall will be a 10 car train located on the west side of the stairs (as you head down to the Youth Services department).
